Now every time I see the game Qwertl (sp) I will think of you and the fun time we had playing this game...and Julie, who got like 12 Qwertl's. So, our book for February is The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Yes, it's just like the movie (probably) only more good stuff in it (at least I'm hoping). We have a new system for book club which I'm kind of excited about. It's always good to switch things up a bit. A little spontaneity is a good thing...it's what you need to keep a marriage strong, and hopefully it will keep our book club going strong too. Each book club we all put in the name of a book that we would like to read, then we choose from a hat/bowl, etc. Whatever we choose will be the book for the month. It's random and fun, and takes all the guess work out of who's turn it is to choose a book.
It's a new month and a new book. This month the book is Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster. It's so fun to have each of us picking a new book each month because there are so many books that I've never heard of before. This is one of them. I read that this book is really popular in Iran, and for those just learning english as a 2nd language. It's also a classic piece of literature written in 1912, so I'm really excited to read it. There was also a movie made with Fred Astair, and not sure who else. Way fun!
I'm not sure of the address or time, but I'm sure it will all be posted on FB! Can't wait to discuss.

I'll just throw this out in the blogger wind...Did anyone read last month's book? Me...Me...I Did! :)gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-11266206708077508662011-12-02T11:47:00.000-08:002011-12-02T11:47:12.707-08:00December BookBook Club was all spread out last month, but most of us got to go see the new Twilight movie! Gotta love our guilty pleasures. So new month new book. This month the book is "The Forgotten Garden" by Kate Morton. If you're thinking it's a spin off of "The Secret Garden" you are wrong. The similarities are in some of the names, and an orphan going to live with a crippled kind of creepy uncle. That's about it. It's a bit of a haunting mystery type of read.

Book club meeting this month is TBD. The holidays are hard to get together, but maybe there's a time when most of us can. Check FB to voice any ideas. We also would like to do a little reorganization with our book choosing order. It's all out of whack now since we lost some, and some are just too busy to even think about reading for fun, so let's discuss when we next meet.

Happy reading, and Happy Holidays. Love you all!gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-2601376341594774102011-11-21T15:42:00.000-08:002011-11-21T15:42:14.330-08:00November BookSo book club was fun this month. Those of us who were able took in our traditional "Twilight" movie, and then lunch after! Only one movie left to go ladies, then what?

So this month's book is Aubrey's pick. It's Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks. It's a historical fiction about an Indian boy (with an Indian name I can't even pronounce or type here), but his christian name is Caleb. It's based on the 1st native american who got an education and degree from Harvard I believe, and his journey to becoming or learning about christianity. It's an interesting read so far.

I'm not sure when book club will be held for December, but Amy expressed an interest in having it at her house so watch on FB for updates. Enjoy reading...especially during your break if you get one.gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-4984468288284967492011-10-20T13:18:00.000-07:002011-10-20T13:18:21.256-07:00October's BookWell we're well into the month, and I have yet to update the blog. I guess I could just let it fall by the way side like I did with my own blog, but I'm determined to try and keep it up. Not sure who reads this any more but at least it's out there.

So this month's book is Casting Off by Nicole R. Dickerson. It's a short sweet feel good kind of read. Hopefully some of us have read by the time we meet for book club.

This month meet at my house 6pm. You almost don't have to read the book, because they stuck so closely with how it was written. We have a great time at book club last month for those of you that missed. Delicious food at an Indian Restaurant, and then we went to see The Help. Good times.

This month's book is Julie's pick. Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. It sounds like a good one.

Book club will be held September 10th at 6pm at Lynette's home. We always have a great time no matter where we are, or what activity we decide to do.

So August's book is Juliet by Anne Forntier. It's a retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story with a lot of mystery & conspiracy thrown in. This is Amy's pick, (who we haven't seen in awhile) & Amy if you're reading this we hope to see you this time at book club.

I think a grand total of 2 of us read the book, but that beats zero. I'm still waiting for it at the library so not sure if I'll ever see it.

July's book is a classic....A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith. I hope you all enjoy!

Book club this month will be July 23rd 6pm at Rebecca's house...unless plans are otherwise made to meet at a different location.
gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-8910846943646590972011-05-31T14:42:00.000-07:002011-05-31T14:48:52.906-07:00June's Book
OMG...Titanic murder mystery party was a huge success! Breakfast & the movie were fun as always.
This month's book is Julia's pick...Jamaica Inn by Daphne Du Maurier. The same author that wrote Rebecca. Did you know that this is a movie as well? Maureen O' Hara plays in it and it was made in 1939. I was reading up on it a little.

Anyway, book club is TBD as usual. This months book is I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (obviously a pseudo-name). It has gotten rave revues from a lot of kids and adults alike. So, pick up that book ladies and read.

This month's get together is tentative....We have a new idea this month to keep things fresh. We thought a hike/run/walk (what ever you prefer) on Mary's Loop (about 9 miles) early on Saturday morning around 6:30 7ish...then off to breakfast at IHOP. We're still waiting for everyone's thoughts on this. Of course those who wish to not participate in the early morning outdoor activity can always meet us for breakfast after. We'll wait until the verdict is out to get a more firm plan going.

Happy Reading Ya'll!!
gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-74732531756895605632011-03-07T13:42:00.000-08:002011-03-07T13:49:01.407-08:00March's Book
We all had a great time at book club as always. January has come and gone, and we are just one month closer to warmer weather....hopefully. Thank you Julie for hosting a very fun as always book club last month. I love it when we all get together.

Ashley (one of our awesome long distance book club members) Chose this months book....with a little help of course because she's busy working, going to school, being a mom, and growing a new baby...whew, I'm tired just typing that. We love you Ash! Anyway, the pick for this month is "These Is My Words" by Nancy Turner. It's supposed to be really good with a 4.5 star rating on good reads.

We decided last book club to go out to dinner as a group. Saturday February 26th is the date...I'm thinking 6pm at the Texas Roadhouse....Yum!
gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-67649007334243727482011-01-03T11:40:00.000-08:002011-01-03T11:51:39.836-08:00January's Book
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday...Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year. It has been that long since we have all met. It's time that we get together again! First things first Aubrey has picked the book for January. It feels like once we get to October things just start to accelerate. I want it to slow down just a bit. Thank you Becca for hosting book club and our first How to Host a Murder party for book club. We all had a blast. The costumes were all fun, and most of us had a hard time figuring out who the "murderer" was. We will definetly have to do this again.

This month's book is a pick by one of our new members Tonya. I know Tonya is a big fan of Louis L'Amour, so it's only fitting that she choose The Walking Drum. Most of you may think this is a western and we have not read a western before, but you would be wrong this is an adventure story....but there are horses. :) I love that we have a wide variety of books we have read so far for book club.

Have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season! This is Julia's month and the pick is "The Scarlett Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy. Our author has a fancy title. I'm very excited to read this month's book because it's a classic, and has had several movie versions made from it. That usually means it's going to be a pretty good book. I know I am. It's hard to believe, but April is almost over! Didn't we just have Christmas. It's time to start thinking about book club again. YAY! This month's book was chosen by Jen H. It's called The Girls from Ames. by Jeffrey Zaslow. It's a true story, about a group of friend from Ames Iowa. We've had a lot of fiction lately, so this month is a change of pace.

Book club meeting this month will be Saturday May 22nd at my house. It feels good to say that! I hope that's good for everyone else.

Happy Reading All!
gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-9203292332434990242010-04-03T18:06:00.000-07:002010-04-03T18:12:02.217-07:00April's Book Rebecca's pick
Book club was a good time as usual in March. I hope everyone enjoyed the book last month. Strange title, but a feel good story.

This month's book Daughter of the Forest (The first book in the Seven Waters series) by Juliet Marillier is a book in the fantasy realm which I am really excited about.

I love the variety we have from murder mystery to feel good books, to political books, fantasy, you name it we read it.

Book club date & time TBA. Enjoy your reading!gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708644365755373067.post-44612719927895380262010-03-14T18:53:00.000-07:002010-03-14T18:56:40.951-07:00Bookclub meetingMarch bookclub will be the 26th at 6:30. The food was delicious! Thank you again Mande (& Ava Sweet Cakes) for bringing the sweets. That was the most delicious white german chocolate cake I have ever had, considering that was my first experience with a white german chocolate cake. YUM!!!

So a few of us read last month's book, and I think we have come to the conclusion that the book was dry at first, pretty good in the middle with a weird ending. We also know that in Sweden they do things a little different than we are used to. To each their own.

This months book has been chosen as a top readers pick from a few different authors. "The Geurnesy Literary Potato Peel Pie Society" It's a book about love & friendship which should be a nice change after last months book. I love that we have variety in our book club.

Book club meeting is still to be determined, but I will update when I have more info. Enjoy your reading this month.
gjgirlshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01506583165051324129noreply@blogger.com1
