December Book

Book Club was all spread out last month, but most of us got to go see the new Twilight movie!  Gotta love our guilty pleasures.  So new month new book.  This month the book is "The Forgotten Garden" by Kate Morton.  If you're thinking it's a spin off of "The Secret Garden" you are wrong.  The similarities are in some of the names, and an orphan going to live with a crippled kind of creepy uncle.  That's about it.  It's a bit of a haunting mystery type of read.

Book club meeting this month is TBD.  The holidays are hard to get together, but maybe there's a time when most of us can.  Check FB to voice any ideas.  We also would like to do a little reorganization with our book choosing order.  It's all out of whack now since we lost some, and some are just too busy to even think about reading for fun, so let's discuss when we next meet.

Happy reading, and Happy Holidays.  Love you all!

November Book

So book club was fun this month.  Those of us who were able took in our traditional "Twilight" movie, and then lunch after!  Only one movie left to go ladies, then what?

So this month's book is Aubrey's pick.  It's Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks.  It's a historical fiction about an Indian boy (with an Indian name I can't even pronounce or type here), but his christian name is Caleb.  It's based on the 1st native american who got an education and degree from Harvard I believe, and his journey to becoming or learning about christianity.  It's an interesting read so far.

I'm not sure when book club will be held for December, but Amy expressed an interest in having it at her house so watch on FB for updates.  Enjoy reading...especially during your break if you get one.

October's Book

Well we're well into the month, and I have yet to update the blog.  I guess I could just let it fall by the way side like I did with my own blog, but I'm determined to try and keep it up.  Not sure who reads this any more but at least it's out there.

So this month's book is Casting Off by Nicole R. Dickerson.  It's a short sweet feel good kind of read.  Hopefully some of us have read by the time we meet for book club.

This month meet at my house 6pm.  Call me if you need directions.  See you soon

September's Book

Wasn't The Help a great movie!  You almost don't have to read the book, because they stuck so closely with how it was written.  We have a great time at book club last month for those of you that missed.  Delicious food at an Indian Restaurant, and then we went to see The Help.  Good times.

This month's book is Julie's pick.  Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman.  It sounds like a good one.

Book club will be held September 10th at 6pm at Lynette's home.  Check Facebook for further details.  See you all then.

August's Book

Thanks Becca for hosting book club in July.  We always have a great time no matter where we are, or what activity we decide to do.

So August's book is Juliet by Anne Forntier.  It's a retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story with a lot of mystery & conspiracy thrown in.  This is Amy's pick, (who we haven't seen in awhile) & Amy if you're reading this we hope to see you this time at book club.

Book Club will meet at Julie's home at 6:00pm on August 13th.

July's Book

June book club was fun, 16 candles, good conversation & rich chocolate cheesecake. I think a grand total of 2 of us read the book, but that beats zero. I'm still waiting for it at the library so not sure if I'll ever see it.

July's book is a classic....A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith. It's about a young girl named Francie and her family growing up poor in Brooklyn and getting by. This book won a few awards, and is read in several schools. Like I said it's a classic. I hope you all enjoy!

Book club this month will be July 23rd 6pm at Rebecca's house...unless plans are otherwise made to meet at a different location.

June's Book

OMG...Titanic murder mystery party was a huge success! Thank you Julia for hosting and for writing the script for the party! We all had a blast! I'm sorry I mistook your husband for the pizza delivery guy too! :)
So this month's book is "If You Were Here" by Jen Lancaster. Keri picked this month's book. It's a light-hearted comedy that mentions John Hughes who directed "Sixteen Candles". So in honor of the beloved 1980's we will be having an 80's bash!

My house (Jen Groves)
June 11th 6:00pm

I'm not sure if any of us will have the book read by then, but hey we can give it a shot at least.

See ya'll then!

May's Book

Those of us that made book club last month had a great time as always. A hike was planned, and Julie & Julia (love that! Isn't that a movie?) went on that hike and took great pictures for us. We will definetly have to plan another hike hopefully with a better turn out. Breakfast & the movie were fun as always.
This month's book is Julia's pick...Jamaica Inn by Daphne Du Maurier. The same author that wrote Rebecca. Did you know that this is a movie as well? Maureen O' Hara plays in it and it was made in 1939. I was reading up on it a little.
Anyway, book club is TBD as usual. We will keep you posted on FB.

April's Book

Here's an update for those who still read this blog. This months book is I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (obviously a pseudo-name). It has gotten rave revues from a lot of kids and adults alike. So, pick up that book ladies and read.

This month's get together is tentative....We have a new idea this month to keep things fresh. We thought a hike/run/walk (what ever you prefer) on Mary's Loop (about 9 miles) early on Saturday morning around 6:30 7ish...then off to breakfast at IHOP. We're still waiting for everyone's thoughts on this. Of course those who wish to not participate in the early morning outdoor activity can always meet us for breakfast after. We'll wait until the verdict is out to get a more firm plan going.

Happy Reading Ya'll!!

March's Book

We all had a great time at book club as always. Texas Roadhouse & The Social Network...works for me. We were missing those who didn't make it though. Last months book was awesome!
This month's book was picked by our newest member Megan. Room by Emma Donahue. If we all read it we should be able to have some good discussion about this book...do you think there will be a month when everyone reads the book? Maybe one day. :)

Book club will be Sat. March 26th...4 or 5ish (Becca's on call until 3pm). We're going to go see Red Riding Hood. Probably meet at the theater...possible for a treat before or after...check FB for updates. Happy Reading!

February's Book

Happy February fellow book-clubbers. January has come and gone, and we are just one month closer to warmer weather....hopefully. Thank you Julie for hosting a very fun as always book club last month. I love it when we all get together.

Ashley (one of our awesome long distance book club members) Chose this months book....with a little help of course because she's busy working, going to school, being a mom, and growing a new baby...whew, I'm tired just typing that. We love you Ash! Anyway, the pick for this month is "These Is My Words" by Nancy Turner. It's supposed to be really good with a 4.5 star rating on good reads.

We decided last book club to go out to dinner as a group. Saturday February 26th is the date...I'm thinking 6pm at the Texas Roadhouse....Yum!

January's Book

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday...Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year. It has been that long since we have all met. It's time that we get together again! First things first Aubrey has picked the book for January. For those who still read this blog, the book has already been posted on FB check it out. The book is "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula K. Le Guin

Book club will be held at Julie's house this month. We will hold book club tentatively on the weekend of the 21st or 22nd. One of us will let everyone know! Until then, hopefully a few of us will read the book. :)
